What ARE NEUROMODULATORS and how do THEY work?
Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are purified proteins that block nerve impulses to the treated muscles in your face, thus temporarily improving the look of frown lines.
Will I get botulism from this? Is it safe?
Neurotoxins have been widely tested and used for about 20 years. The doses used to treat facial wrinkles are tiny. The average dose of botulinum toxin used to treat facial wrinkles is 25 to 75 units. For comparison, the estimated lethal dose of botulinum toxin is approximately 3,000 units.
what areas can you get injected?
• the 'eleven lines' between the eyebrows
• forehead lines
• crow's feet lines on the outside of the eyes
• vertical lipstick lines above the upper lip
• the tail of the eyebrows to lift sagging eyebrows
• the angles of the mouth to lift the downturned corners of the mouth
• chin wrinkles and dimples
• horizontal neck creases or 'necklace' lines
• vertical neck ‘bands'
• enlarged cheek muscles to soften a square jaw
• "bunny lines" on the sides of the upper nose
What is it like to be treated with neuromodulator?
First the problem wrinkle areas on your face are examined. Neuromodulator treatments are tailored to what each individual needs and the result they are trying to achieve. Small doses of solution are injected with a tiny needle into the wrinkle-causing muscles. Most patients are surprised by how quick and relatively painless the procedure is.
Anything I need to do after my treatment?
You may resume normal activity right after your treatment. The treated areas may be slightly pink and raised (like a bug bite) for 20 minutes or so. One should avoid rubbing or disturbing the treated areas afterward. For example, one should not wear swim goggles or lay face-down on a massage table within 12 hours of treatment so as not to apply pressure to the treated areas.
How soon will I see results?
Results are seen within 2 days after treatment, and the results build until they reach peak effect at around 14 days.
How long does one treatment last?
The results will last 3-4 months. Studies show that with repeated treatments your results may start to last longer.
What about getting treatments for excessive sweating?
Botox and Dysport are also used for hyperhidrosis, a disease characterized by excessive sweating. The neuromodulator is typically injected into the underarms, palms, or feet to block the impulses that produce sweat.
